E-O MODULATORS

These are novel devices based on single-crystal films of organic materials (patent issued) having exceptionally large electro-optic coefficients. The device operates with light propagating perpendicular to the film causing low insertion loss. The small thickness of the films allows efficient coupling with optical fibers leading to unique device structures. Devices for operation over a wide range of frequencies are available. A broad range of applications including: R&D, training of students, optical signal processing and telecommunication. These films are appropriate for applications up to very high speed ~GHz. Single-crystal films of DAST and various other organic second order optical and electro-optic materials (NPP, COANP, APDA, PNP, DASMS, DEST) are available to be purchased. These crystals (thickness ranging from 1 to 15 microns) are available on various substrates like quartz, dielectric coated quartz, silicon and Tin oxide coated quartz. |
